The Spirit of Giving

As I walked down the hall on my morning rounds, a blue-eyed first grade boy bounced toward me saying politely and excitedly, "Miss Mimi, when you have a minute, could you stop by our room?" Since I was nearby, I followed him back to his class. When the teacher saw me, she walked to her desk and picked up this big old tub of yummy candy, which she presented to me. Of course I squealed with genuine delight, and the children gathered round with hugs and sweet words. One of my favorite little girls, who has personality coming out of her ears, said ,"Eat one now! Eat a piece now! We want to SEE you enjoy it!" As I savored the vibrant taste of a mint patty, I appreciated the fact that this child possessed the real spirit of giving. She was sincerely interested in contributing joy through her gift, and I realized that I should learn from her innocent , caring heart and follow her example when I have something to give. Thank you, Ms. Ashley and students and parents! You made my day!
