Family Love

(Not a school story, but could be used as an example of empathy in a lesson.)

While on board public bus number 10, which would take us from Cable Beach to downtown Nassau, our driver stopped at
a crosswalk to ask some men whether they wanted a ride or not. One of them said no, that they simply needed to get their dad across the street safely. Looking more closely, I noticed that there were 3 middle-aged men out and about with their elderly father, who was stooped over and walking extremely slowly with the assistance of a cane. Since there were 2 oncoming lanes of busy traffic, this presented a challenge. Our driver remained braked while one of the sons walked across the crosswalk past our bus, and into the second lane of traffic. Holding up his hand like a traffic cop, he waited patiently as the other 2 sons took their dad gently by the elbows and "speed-walked" him across the busy street.  As they stepped into the grass on the other side of the road, all 3 sons sent a wave of thanks, and their sweet father raised his cane in grateful salute. I was touched and humbled and impressed with this show of family love.
