The Olden Days
Setting the stage for a story that happened when I was four, I tried to describe the country setting of Darlington, Alabama, where I grew up. I told about the pastures and cows and barns, and then mentioned the fact that the roads were narrow, there weren't many cars riding around, and we had no traffic lights. A shy little girl sporting a big blue bow raised her hand and said, "Miss Mimi, did you grow up in the olden days?"
