While preparing to park today, I saw the most precious scene. Walking out of the VA office were 2 elderly white-haired gentlemen. One was probably a generation older than the other, so they could have been father and son. The older man was stooped at the waist, had a cane, and looked extremely frail. As they made their way to the car, the younger of the two held onto the other man with such tenderness that it brought instantaneous tears to my eyes. Matching his snail-like pace, the younger man patiently supported the elder and then ever so gently helped him into his seat. I could just feel the love between the two men and was reminded of how much we owe our veterans. May God bless the people who love, respect, support, and befriend them as they age. As we approach the Fourth of July, I want to genuinely thank each and every veteran I know, including my nephew Rob McCay, who served twice in Iraq.
(This isn't a school story but could be used as an illustration of empathy, kindness, or patriotism.)
