While walking into Cheddar's for Sunday lunch, I saw an inspiring example of dignity. A young lady with cerebral palsy, probably around 20 years old, was standing alone outside the entrance, leaning on a walker for assistance. She was facing the front door, waiting patiently for someone to open it so she could go inside. As I held the door, she politely thanked me and hobbled inside to the hostess stand. Several thoughts flooded my mind. I felt compassion and admiration for this poised, courageous girl who had learned to independently deal with the myriad challenges she faces every day. I thanked God for my ability to walk and asked forgiveness for taking major blessings such as this for granted. And finally, I reminded myself to try to put my puny problems in perspective by remembering this precious young girl's example.
This is mostly a blog of everyday stories from my work as a primary school counselor. Some are funny, some are touching, but they all stand out as memorable moments. Sometimes I'll include photos, ideas that are working for me, and meaningful quotes. Enjoy!
